The Drought Largo is worth buying if you need a base layer for the season when the spring-summer Drought Quad is too cold and the winter Drought Thermo is too warm. finetrack's official announcement of August 27 scheduled it for September 10, and the official store now lists 4 sizes in 3 colors. The Long Sleeve was 190g at ¥8,250.
The Gear Nerd's Pick
Brushed fabric is the shortcut to a warmer base layer, but finetrack writes that brushed fabric can lose some of its sweat absorption, and for the Largo it chose a 3-layer fabric that does not rely on brushing. So I don't see the Largo as a thick base layer, but as a Quad with 65g added while keeping its ability to absorb sweat. For the seasons when cold is the main concern, I leave it to the Thermo.
Key points
- Price per gram is ¥43.4 (¥8,250 ÷ 190g). Lower than the Drought Quad's ¥55.9, the Merinospin Light's ¥86.4 and the Drought Thermo's ¥49.2
- The difference from the Drought Quad is 65g and ¥1,265. Per added gram, that is about ¥19.5
- Same 190g as the Drought Thermo. You can't choose by weight, so split them by the official seasons (Largo: spring, fall, winter; Thermo: winter)
The Drought Largo sits between the Quad and the Thermo
The Drought Thermo Long Sleeve is 190g. The new Drought Largo is also 190g. Even at the same weight, the Thermo is for winter and the Largo is for spring, fall and winter.
On the official page, its developer writes that they switched between the close-fitting Merinospin Light and the Drought Quad, whose warmth can fall short depending on the temperature. The Largo was placed in that gap.
How I judged it
The first thing I looked at was weight: the Long Sleeve is 190g in size M. Next, I compared it with the Drought Quad (125g); the difference was 65g and ¥1,265. What gave me pause was that it weighs the same as the winter Drought Thermo. I still recommend it because at ¥43.4 per gram it is the lowest of finetrack's 4 long-sleeve tops, and it keeps the sweat-absorbing design without relying on brushing. It suits people who already own the Quad and want a second layer for spring, fall and the lingering-snow season.

65g and ¥1,265 more than the Quad
I'll say this with feeling. Divide the ¥1,265 difference by the 65g added, and it comes to about ¥19.5 per gram. By that math, you add thickness for about a third of the price of the Quad's own fabric (¥55.9 per gram). Both use a 3-layer fabric that spreads sweat from the skin side outward, and the Largo uses a grid structure to release trapped heat.

The Merinospin Light is 37% wool with a close fit. The Largo is 100% synthetic with a regular fit. finetrack's own test says it dries about twice as fast as a typical 100% wool base layer. If you want the feel of wool, choose the Merinospin Light.

Here is the catch. You can't choose by weight. The Thermo is 89% polyester and 11% cupro, has the highest warmth index among finetrack's winter base layers, and is meant for snowy-mountain hiking. The Largo is meant for spring and fall hiking up to the lingering-snow season. Whether to pay the extra ¥1,100 depends on the season you go. This season the Thermo also gets a new navy color.

RecommendedSee it on RakutenSee it on Yahoo! Shopping JapanThe Drought Largo is designed to be layered over a Drylayer
It has a regular fit that doesn't cling to the body, designed for layering with a Drylayer (a water-repellent mesh layer that keeps sweat off the skin) and a mid layer. Even when worn without a jacket, it assumes a Drylayer underneath. For a windbreaker to layer over it, see the wind shell rankings.
Layered with the Drylayer Basic (56g, ¥6,127), the total is 246g and ¥14,377. I ranked it against other brands' base layers in the base layer rankings.
What to watch out for with the Drought Largo
First, washing. It is a knit that shrinks easily in the wash, so avoid tumble drying. Also take care with snags and abrasion.
Second, sun protection. The Quad's page mentions UV protection, but the Largo's page does not. For a base layer worn alone on summer ridges, stick with the Quad.
Who is it for?
It suits people who already own the Quad and want to add a slightly warmer base layer for high mountains in fall or the lingering-snow season. At ¥43.4 per gram you add thickness, and the sweat-absorbing design stays the same. Among this fall-winter's new base layers, it is the one I recommend first, price included.
For a layer from the same brand to wear on top, I covered the Flow Wrap Hoodie review, released in early October.
If you mostly do summer low mountains and day hikes, the 125g Quad, or for midwinter snowy mountains, the Thermo, which finetrack labels for winter, are other options.
