The finetrack Flow Wrap Hoodie is a renewed version on sale from early October 2026. ¥29,700 (incl. tax), 285g (men's M). If you want to keep the same layer on through climbs and breaks in autumn and winter mountains, it's worth buying.
The Gear Nerd's Pick
Flow Wrap is a 3-layer fabric with a dedicated membrane sandwiched between an outer and inner knit. The membrane blocks wind and snow, and the knit stretches 220% widthwise. That's why, for anyone who wants to stop the 'take it off when hot, put it on when cold' routine in winter mountains, I recommend this before a rain jacket. A layer you can keep walking in means fewer stops.
Key points
- 285g in men's M at ¥29,700. Price per gram: 29,700 ÷ 285 = about ¥104
- Waterproof rating 10,000mm. The seams aren't taped, so leave steady rain to a rain jacket
- The big chest pockets sit clear of your pack's chest strap. Link vents at the sides for ventilation
Is the Flow Wrap Hoodie worth buying for winter mountains?
You sweat on a winter climb, then chill in the wind on the ridge. Taking layers out and putting them away, your fingers go numb. The real problem in winter mountains isn't the cold itself but how often you change layers.
The Flow Wrap Hoodie is a layer made to cut down those changes. finetrack calls it 'a winter mid-shell you can keep wearing.'
How I judged it
The first thing I looked at was the fabric build: a 3-layer fabric with a dedicated membrane between an outer and inner knit, a 10,000mm waterproof rating, and 220% stretch widthwise and 143% lengthwise. Next I lined it up against the same brand's lighter Ascent Beyond Hoodie and the EVERBREATH Photon rain jacket. What gave me pause was the 285g weight. Even so, if you want to walk without taking your top layer off in the mountains from autumn through deep winter, this mix of stretch and membrane is worth paying for.

What changed from the previous version?
What this remake highlights is how it feels with a hard shell layered on top. The outer knit has a durable water-repellent (DWR) finish that sheds light rain and wet snow, and the inner knit is water-repellent too.
The water-repellent inner face is a detail worth knowing about. When sweat forms a film of water on the lining, moisture has a harder time passing through the membrane, and you get clammier. A water-repellent lining makes that film less likely to form. It's built to keep moisture moving out on sweaty winter climbs.
How it compares with the Ascent Beyond and EVERBREATH Photon
Scroll the table sideways →
| Model | Weight | Waterproof rating | Price | Per gram |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Flow Wrap Hoodie | 285g | 10,000mm | ¥29,700 | ¥104.2 |
| Ascent Beyond Hoodie | 115g | 700mm | ¥22,000 | ¥191.3 |
| EVERBREATH Photon Jacket | 300g | 20,000mm | ¥41,690 | ¥139.0 |
I'll be enthusiastic here. It's 300 − 285 = 15g lighter than the Photon and 41,690 − 29,700 = ¥11,990 cheaper. And a fabric that stretches 220% widthwise gives a freedom of movement rain jackets don't have. If you're after 'the one layer you wear all day' in winter mountains, the Flow Wrap is what I'd reach for first.
The Ascent Beyond is a windbreaker 170g lighter, the layer for days you wear a harness on rocky terrain. I covered the differences in my Ascent Beyond Hoodie review.

RecommendedSee it on RakutenHow far does a 10,000mm waterproof rating go on rainy days?
Waterproof rating is how high a column of water can sit on the fabric before water seeps through (measured under JIS L 1092). 10,000mm is half the Photon's 20,000mm.
The seams aren't taped, so it isn't fully waterproof. Keep it on through snow, fog, and light rain, and layer a rain jacket over it in steady rain. I compared jackets to layer on top in my hiking rain jacket rankings.

Lowest price on Rakuten: ¥26,899 (as of 10/13). Prices vary by shop, up to ¥42,290, and change daily. For clothing, check the maker's size chart (height, chest, waist) against your own measurements. If unsure, check the shop's return and exchange terms.
RecommendedSee it on RakutenSee it on Yahoo! Shopping JapanWho it suits
It suits people who want to stay in the same top through climbs and breaks on high mountains in autumn or low mountains in winter. The stretchy knit resists pulling when you swing your arms, and the side link vents let heat out. The chest pockets sit clear of your pack's chest strap, so you can take out a map or trail snacks with the pack on.
For the base layer underneath, you can pair it within the same brand with the spring/autumn/winter piece I covered in my Drought Largo review.
For a windbreaker in summer mountains, the lighter Ascent Beyond is another option.
FAQ
When does the Flow Wrap Hoodie come out?
It rolls out from early Oct 2026, at ¥29,700 (incl. tax). A model sold only at finetrack's own stores follows from mid-Oct.
How much does the Flow Wrap Hoodie weigh?
285g in men's M and 250g in women's M.
Can the Flow Wrap replace a rain jacket?
No. Its waterproof rating is 10,000mm, but the seams aren't taped, so in steady rain I layer a rain jacket over it.
