The ARAI TENT Light Air Raiz 1 is a new member of the Air Raiz family, released in June 2026. ¥67,100 (incl. tax), 1,040 g (body, fly and poles). Its 100 × 205 cm floor matches the Air Raiz 1, yet it's 320 g lighter. If you want to cut weight while keeping a familiar shape, it's a buy.

The Gear Nerd's Pick

The Light Air Raiz shares the Air Raiz's floor size and pole length, so the body, fly and poles are all interchangeable. That's why the biggest value I see is being able to mix and match: the Light poles on days I want less weight, the Air Raiz poles on days I want more strength. Few tents let you change their weight by swapping a single part instead of buying a whole new tent.

Key points

  • 320 g lighter than the Air Raiz 1. Divide the ¥13,200 price difference and it's about ¥41 per gram saved
  • The savings break down as body 125 g, fly 105 g, poles 90 g. You can swap just one of them
  • The poles are NFL8.7, slightly less strong than the Air Raiz's NSL9. A 3-season tent

Is the Light Air Raiz 1 a buy? | The Air Raiz, 320 g lighter

The Air Raiz is a classic shape you've long seen at mountain tent sites. The Light Air Raiz 1 cuts 320 g without changing that floor by even 1 cm.

ARAI TENT positions it not as a bid for “lightest,” but as a lighter version that keeps the Air Raiz's reliability. I think that trade-off is the most honest kind of weight-cutting.

How I judged it

First I looked at the combined weight of body, fly and poles: 1,040 g for the Light Air Raiz 1, 1,360 g for the Air Raiz 1. Next I split the 320 g saving by part and divided the price difference by it. What gave me pause was the 916 g Heritage Hi-Revo at a similar price. I still recommend this one because the floor is a size larger, and your existing Air Raiz parts and options work as they are. I hike in Japan and abroad, and a tent you already know how to pitch is about the best reassurance there is.

As shown on ARAI TENT's product pages on Oct 18, 2026 (prices incl. tax). The differences are my own calculation. The Air Raiz 1 body weight is listed as the catalog weight minus the fly and poles.

I'll get excited here. ¥13,200 ÷ 320 g means about ¥41 per gram saved. Weight per square meter of floor also drops from 663 g (1,360 ÷ 2.05) to 507 g (1,040 ÷ 2.05). Getting this light without giving up any floor space is a number that shows the makers' grit.

You can swap parts freely, too. Pair the Light's body and fly with Air Raiz poles and it's 1,130 g: a little heavier, but stronger. When an Air Raiz fly wears out, you can replace it with the Light's fly and save 105 g.

How it compares with the Hi-Revo

In the same price range, the lighter one is Heritage's Hi-Revo: 916 g at ¥64,130, 124 g lighter than the Light Air Raiz 1 and ¥2,970 cheaper.

The reason to pick the Light Air Raiz 1 anyway is floor space. 100 × 205 cm is 2.05 square meters, more than the Hi-Revo's 1.89. The more you spread gear out on the floor, the more that difference matters. I lined it up against other lightweight tents in my lightweight solo mountain tent rankings.

Who it suits

It suits best if you're used to the Air Raiz shape and want a lighter load for backpacking. Pitching and floor space are the same, and your current Air Raiz option parts work with it too.

It also suits anyone buying their first mountain tent. It's a 1-person tent with room for up to 2, and with the lighter tent you could even go one pack size smaller. I explain how to pick capacity in how to choose a hiking backpack size.

The poles are NFL8.7, slightly less strong than the Air Raiz's NSL9. If you often pitch in strong wind, you can pair it with Air Raiz poles. The vestibule shape also differs from the Air Raiz.
