The NANGA Aurora Tex Light 480DX is a redesigned sleeping bag released on September 11, 2026. The Regular is ¥55,000 (incl. tax), weighs about 870g in total, and has a comfort rating of 0°C. If you want one bag for backpacking from spring to fall, this is the one to buy among the three sizes.
The Gear Nerd's Pick
The down under you is crushed by your own weight and holds almost no air. The 480DX uses box-quilt construction on top and single-quilt on the bottom to put the down where it works. So if I choose the 480DX, I also pick the sleeping pad that handles the cold from below at the same time.
Key points
- From the 380DX to the 480DX: 110g heavier, comfort rating 3°C lower. About 37g per 1°C
- From the 480DX to the 630DX: 320g heavier, 6°C lower. About 53g per 1°C; beyond this point the warmth gain slows for the weight
- The shell is AURORA TEX LIGHT with a waterproof rating of 20,394mm and breathability of 24,116g/㎡/24h. It handles tent condensation well even without a bag cover
Is the Aurora Tex Light 480DX worth buying? | One bag for spring-to-fall backpacking
In the tent before dawn, the foot of your sleeping bag is damp with condensation. With a down bag, this dampness is a problem even before the cold.
The 480DX uses a waterproof-breathable fabric for the shell itself, so it handles that dampness well. It is NANGA's Fall/Winter 2026 model, the first major redesign of the series in 8 years, and for three-season mountains this is the one I choose.
How I judged it
The first thing I looked at was the combination of comfort rating and weight. The 480DX is 0°C at about 870g. Next, I lined it up with the 380DX and 630DX from the same series and calculated how many grams each 1°C costs. What gave me pause was whether 0°C is enough for high mountains in the autumn-leaf season. I still recommend it because it is 3°C warmer for just 110g over the 380DX, while the weight jumps sharply going up to the 630DX. This size gives the most warmth for the weight.

| 630DX | About 1,190g | −6℃ / −13℃ | ¥67,100 | About 53g |
I'll say this with feeling. For 110g and ¥5,500, the comfort rating drops by 3°C, the best-value step in this series. On top of that, only the top side gets box-quilt construction, a step up in build too.
The 630DX is box-quilted all over, a single bag that covers down to −6°C. But it is 320g heavier and ¥12,100 more. For 3-season mountains, stopping at the 480DX is the rational choice.

Down collapses when wet and can no longer hold air. Inside a tent, the moisture in your breath condenses on the cold walls and drips onto your bag.
The 480DX shell has a waterproof rating of 20,394mm, built to keep condensation from wetting the down without carrying a separate waterproof cover. Breathability is also high at 24,116g/㎡/24h, so moisture inside the bag escapes outward. Losing the weight and hassle of a cover makes a real difference when backpacking. I wrote about how condensation forms in tents in the solo mountain tent rankings. A new lightweight tent is covered in the ARAI TENT Light Air Raiz 1 review.
Who it suits
It suits people who want one sleeping bag for backpacking from high mountains in summer to low mountains in fall. Total weight is about 870g, and packed it is 14 × 31cm in diameter, only 4cm longer than the 380DX. Once your sleeping bag is settled, next is pack volume. I explain how to decide in how to choose backpack volume. For heavy loads on backpacking trips, see also the Gregory Baltoro 65 review.
Another plus is that you can choose Short, Regular or Long to match your height. Short comes only in brown and Long only in gray.
If your trips are mostly summer hut-to-hut trips, the 380DX, 110g lighter, is another option.
