The Typhon Warm Jacket was released on October 14, 2026 (official). If you want one waterproof shell to handle cold-season rain and sleet, it's worth buying. But at 504g (M), the Typhon 50000 suits you better if you want one jacket for summer too.

The Gear Nerd's Pick

There's no insulation fill in this jacket. Its warmth comes only from brushing the inside of the waterproof fabric. That's why I count it not as a warm jacket but as a waterproof shell that might let you drop one layer underneath. Weigh the 200g difference against one thin fleece.

Skip the reasoning and see the gear first ↓

Key points

  • Versus the Typhon 50000 Stretch Jacket (304g, ¥35,200): 200g and ¥4,400 more. Waterproof rating 10,000mm higher, listed breathability 10,000 lower
  • ¥78.6 per gram. Cheaper than the Typhon 50000's ¥115.8, but only because it's heavier
  • Paired with the pants in the same fabric (348g, ¥33,000), the set comes to 852g, ¥72,600

The Typhon Warm came out October 14. Not warm rainwear, but a waterproof shell with a brushed lining

With 'Warm' in the name, many people will picture an insulated jacket. The official product page lists no insulation fill. What it does say is one line, 'brushed lining for added warmth,' and the material is 100% nylon.

Released on Oct 14, 2026 (official release). This article judges it by the official numbers available as of the release date.

How I judged it

The first thing I looked at was weight. 504g (M) is 200g heavier than the Typhon 50000 Stretch Jacket's 304g, with a price gap of ¥4,400. What gave me pause was whether to see that 200g as 'heavy' or as 'one inner layer's worth.' I still recommend it because a 30,000mm waterproof rating, stretch, and a brushed lining come in one jacket, letting you rethink how many layers you carry in the cold season. It suits people who walk on rainy and sleety days from late autumn to early spring.

I'll be enthusiastic here. The price per gram is ¥78.6 (¥39,600 ÷ 504g), far cheaper than the Typhon 50000's ¥115.8. But it isn't a light jacket, so read that number as 'cheap for the amount of fabric.'

The difference from the Typhon 50000: 200g and ¥4,400

ModelWeightWaterproof rating / breathabilityOfficial price
Typhon Warm (this one)504g (M)30,000mm / 40,000¥39,600
Typhon 50000 Stretch304g20,000mm / 50,000¥35,200
Typhon Stretch300g30,000mm / 50,000¥36,300
Warm Next Stretch (previous model)514g30,000mm / 40,000¥38,500
As shown on the official pages on Oct 14, 2026; prices are regular prices incl. tax. Breathability is in g/m2/24h. The Warm's weight is for size M; the other 3 use the weight figure exactly as listed on the official page.

The gap to the 50000 is 504g − 304g = 200g and ¥39,600 − ¥35,200 = ¥4,400. The waterproof rating goes up 10,000mm and the listed breathability goes down 10,000. For the lining, the 50000 has a 15-denier knit and the Warm is brushed.

If you want the same jacket for summer rain too, I'd pick the 50000. The numbers and build are in my Typhon 50000 Stretch Jacket review.

The gap to the previous model, the 'Warm Next Stretch'

It got 10g lighter, the regular price went up ¥1,100, and the back length in M grew from 72cm to 74cm. The waterproof rating and breathability figures are the same. What's highlighted is the 3D cut 'Mont 3D': what changed is the pattern, more than the fabric. This part is so-so. If the previous model has been marked down, it will do the job.

Why I don't line up its 40,000 breathability against other brands' numbers

Breathability is the weight of water vapor that 1 m² of fabric lets through in 24 hours, measured under the JIS L 1099 standard. The standard includes method A-1 and method B-1, which use different desiccants, and the testing lab Nissenken explains that B-1 gives larger numbers. Millet doesn't state its method, so I only go as far as comparing the 40,000 with Millet's own 50,000.

What to watch for when using it in winter

Millet describes this jacket as an autumn/winter piece for 'trekking in harsh cold,' and its feature page mentions climbing in rain and snow. There's no temperature guide for how cold it can handle. Decide what to wear underneath separately, based on the mountain and season.

Ventilation is also a weak point. There are no underarm zips; to vent, you fasten the snap button above the front zip and open the front. If you run hot on climbs, know this in advance.

To line it up against lighter jackets from other makers, I've summarized weights and prices in my rain jacket rankings.

Top and bottom together: 852g, ¥72,600

The 'Typhon Warm Pants' in the same fabric are 348g (M), ¥33,000. 504g + 348g = 852g, and ¥39,600 + ¥33,000 = ¥72,600.

Who is it for?

It suits people who want one brushed-lined waterproof shell to handle both cold and rain in winter mountains. Combining warmth and waterproofing in one layer is what makes this new jacket good.

For summer mountains, the 50000 or the Typhon Stretch, 200g lighter, will do. The gap to the previous Warm Next is 10g and 2cm of back length.

FAQ

It was released on Oct 14, 2026 (Millet's official release). The price is ¥39,600 (incl. tax).

What's the difference between the Typhon Warm and the Typhon 50000?
