The Garmin fenix 9 Pro Dual Power (51mm) came out Sep 10, 2026 at ¥198,000. For multi-day hikers who want maps, a light and a long battery in 1 watch, it's an easy buy (watches needed: 1).
The Gear Nerd's Pick
The Dual Power display doesn't light itself; it's a transflective LCD that reflects outside light. The brighter the sun, the easier it is to read, and it spends no battery on brightness. That's why, for a fenix 9 in the mountains, I'd choose Dual Power over the AMOLED that costs ¥10,000 more. At the same 51mm, standard-mode battery runs 19 hours longer.
Key points
- About 75 hours in standard mode. At 10 hours of recording a day, 75 ÷ 10 is 7.5 days. With solar added, about 124 hours
- ¥10,000 cheaper than the same-size 51mm AMOLED (¥208,000), with 19 more hours in standard mode. It weighs 3g more
- Same ¥198,000 as the fenix 8 Dual Power (51mm). Storage doubles from 32GB to 64GB, and Expedition mode drops from 50 days to 42
Is the fenix 9 Pro Dual Power a buy for hiking?
The fenix 9 comes in 22 models, and the choices come down to display type and size. In the mountains the question is a beautiful AMOLED or a solar-equipped Dual Power.
My answer is the Dual Power 51mm: it's cheaper and the battery lasts longer.
How I judged it
The first thing I looked at was standard-mode time while recording GPS. On the same fenix 9 Pro 51mm, AMOLED gets about 56 hours and Dual Power about 75. Next I checked price: Dual Power is ¥10,000 cheaper. What gave me pause is that AMOLED wins on screen size and sharpness. Still, in mountains where keeping the recording going matters more than viewing maps, I take the 19-hour gap.

Dual Power vs. AMOLED, and a look at the Enduro 4
| Model | Weight | Standard / High accuracy | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| fenix 9 Pro Dual Power 51mm | 102g | About 75 / 54 hours | ¥198,000 |
| fenix 9 Pro AMOLED 51mm | 99g | About 56 / 45 hours | ¥208,000 |
| Garmin Enduro 4 | 66g | About 80 / 60 hours | ¥138,000 |
Here I'll gush. It's ¥10,000 cheaper than the AMOLED, and standard mode lasts 75 − 56 = 19 hours longer. At 10 hours of walking a day, that's nearly 2 days. As an everyday watch the battery is almost the same, 30 days vs. 31, so the gap only shows when you're recording GPS. The more you use it in the mountains, the bigger Dual Power's advantage.

Dividing high-accuracy hours per ¥10,000: the fenix 9 Pro Dual Power gets 54 ÷ 19.8, about 2.7 hours, and the Enduro 4 gets 60 ÷ 13.8, about 4.3 hours. The Enduro 4 is the better battery value, and it's 36g lighter too. The extra ¥60,000 for the fenix 9 pays for packing the green light, the bigger display and even diving into one watch.

fenix 9 vs. fenix 8
Between the same Dual Power 51mm models, the price stays at ¥198,000. Storage doubles from 32GB to 64GB, RAM is up 50%, and maps move up to 30% faster. A green light color is added.
The weak spot: weight goes up 7g, from 95g to 102g, and thickness grows 1.2mm, from 15.4mm to 16.6mm. Expedition mode (GPS recording thinned out for multi-day trips) also drops from about 50 days to about 42. For anyone drawn to the map speed and storage, it's a fun upgrade.

RecommendedSee it on RakutenWho it suits
The best fit is someone who wants to keep GPS recording for days on a hut or tent traverse. It lasts about 75 hours in standard mode, and about 124 with solar added. Detailed Japan topographic maps come preloaded and white, red and green LED lights are on your wrist, so map, light and recording fit into one watch. A display that reads better in sun really shines under strong ridge sunlight.
It also suits someone who wants 1 watch for both mountains and sea. 10ATM water resistance and diving functions are included, the price stays at the same ¥198,000 as the previous generation, and storage doubles to 64GB.
If you have thin wrists, the 84g 47mm is an option, and if battery life comes first, there's the Enduro 4. For satellite messaging, the 51mm with inReach is a candidate. Treat a watch map as one tool for confirming your position, and carry a paper map and a smartphone too.
