The Arc'teryx Konseal Trek is a mid-cut boot made for days when you carry a heavy pack to the base of a rock route. It weighs 590 g and costs ¥44,000 (men's). The ankle protection and a sole that changes shape between forefoot and heel are what stand out.

The Gear Nerd's Pick

The sole's lug height differs under the forefoot and the heel: grip on rock in front, grip on soft ground when descending behind. So when I carry a heavy pack onto rock and want protection more than low weight, the Konseal Trek is the boot I pick.

Skip the reasoning and see the gear first ↓

Key points

  • 590 g, ¥44,000. 310 g heavier than the Norvan LD 4 GTX and ¥9,900 more
  • Vibram MegaGrip sole. Forefoot built for smearing, heel for descents, with different lug heights
  • ¥75 per gram. Cheaper per gram than the Norvan LD 4 (¥122), with more protection for the extra weight

[Oct 2026] Konseal Trek price and weight: a 590 g, ¥44,000 boot for carrying loads to the rock

The Konseal Trek (men's) is ¥44,000 including tax and weighs 590 g. Sizes run 25.0 to 29.0 cm, and the model number is X000010504. A new Black/Graphite color joins this season.

It is meant for scrambling and hiking with a heavy pack, and for approaches to rock. It is a mid-cut with a nubuck leather upper and a GORE-TEX membrane inside.

How I judged it

I looked at the sole first. Lug heights differ between forefoot and heel, so each part has its own job: rock in front, descents behind. Then I set it beside the lighter Norvan LD 4 GTX from the same brand. The sticking point is the extra 310 g. I still recommend it because it costs ¥75 per gram against the Norvan's ¥122, and it adds protection for the ankle and toes. If you are torn, take the Konseal: the price of better ankle protection on heavy-pack days is 310 g.

What is different about the Konseal Trek's sole?

Here is where I get enthusiastic. The sole splits one piece of rubber into a rock zone and a descent zone, and that is the heart of this boot. The forefoot climbing zone is for smearing (pressing the sole flat against rock to stand on it). The heel traction zone is set at a height that works when walking down soft ground.

Extra lugs around the edge add bite on rough, uneven terrain. The upper is covered in rubber up the sides to stand up to rubbing on rock, and a molded TPU bumper protects the toes.

Compared with the Norvan LD 4 GTX

ModelWeightPrice (incl. tax)Per gram
Konseal Trek590g¥44,000¥75
Norvan LD 4 GTX280g¥34,100¥122
Figures from the official pages on Oct 20-21, 2026. Per gram is my own calculation: price ÷ weight.

The gaps are 590 g − 280 g = 310 g and ¥44,000 − ¥34,100 = ¥9,900. For about ¥10,000 more, you move up to a mid-cut with more protection.

On a light day hike, you can choose by weight instead. For how I think about the clothing that goes with it, see the Beta AR Jacket review.

How do I choose a Konseal Trek?

Sizes run 25.0 to 29.0 cm. The heel hold was improved, and laces that run close to the toe let you fine-tune the fit. Foot width and instep height differ from person to person, so check whether you can try them on or return them before you buy.

Where it falls short

At 590 g it is on the heavy side for a hiking boot, roughly double the Norvan LD 4 GTX. Nubuck leather takes more care than a fabric upper, and the specified care is a surface wipe only.

Who is it for?

It suits people who carry a heavy pack over rock and stony ground, and anyone who wants more protection for the ankles and toes. If you mostly do light day hikes, you may want a lighter shoe for those days. I do not recommend it as a winter boot. Check the gear needed for your route with local authorities or mountain organizations.

FAQ

How much does the Konseal Trek cost?

The official online store lists it at ¥44,000 including tax.

Is the Konseal Trek waterproof?

The upper has a GORE-TEX membrane that keeps water out while staying breathable (the maker's description). It is not a guarantee against leaks.

How is the Konseal Trek different from the Norvan LD 4?

The Konseal is a mid-cut with extra protection for heavy loads and rocky ground. The Norvan is a 280 g boot for moving fast.
