The Millet Typhon Warm Pants are brushed-lining waterproof pants released on October 14, 2026. They're ¥33,000 (tax included) and 348g (men's M). They're 136g lighter than the old model at the same price, so if you're replacing your winter rain pants, this is the pair this season.

The Gear Nerd's Pick

Brushing the lining of waterproof pants creates a layer of still air between the fabric and your legs. That's why, on a cold rainy day, I'd pick these pants over adding a layer of tights. Fewer layers means easier knee bending and less hassle changing at every break.

Skip the reasoning and see the gear first ↓

Key points

  • The old Warm Next Stretch Pants were 484g. Now 348g, which is 484 − 348 = 136g lighter. The price is the same ¥33,000
  • Water resistance 30,000mm, breathability 40,000g/m2/24h. Even with the brushed lining, the numbers match the old model
  • Price per gram is about ¥94.8 (33,000 ÷ 348). The thinner Typhon Stretch Pants are about ¥122.2

Are the Typhon Warm Pants worth buying for winter rain?

On a winter low mountain, when rain or sleet hits, it's your legs that suffer more than your upper body. Layering tights under thin rain pants makes your knees stiff on the climb and leaves you cold at breaks.

The Typhon Warm Pants are waterproof pants meant to collapse that layering into one piece. The lining is brushed, and Millet sells them as waterproof, breathable fall/winter over-pants.

How I judged it

The first thing I looked at was the weight gap to the old model: from 484g for the Warm Next Stretch Pants to 348g, 136g less at the same price. Next I lined them up against Millet's own thin Typhon Stretch Pants. What gave me pause is that these are 132g heavier than the thin ones. Even so, for cold-season wear, I'd go with this new model, which keeps a brushed lining within this weight.

How do they differ from the old Warm Next?

ModelWeightWaterproof rating / breathabilityPrice
Typhon Warm Pants348g30,000mm / 40,000¥33,000
Warm Next Stretch Pants (old model)484g30,000mm / 40,000¥33,000

These are the figures on each product page as shown on Oct 18, 2026, at regular tax-included prices. The Warm is men's M, and the other 2 use the product-page numbers. Breathability is in g/m2/24h.

This is where I get excited. Water resistance, breathability and price are all the same, and only the weight drops, about 28% by 136 ÷ 484. In winter you spend a lot of time carrying pants in the pack too. Nearly 30% lighter for the same protection is reason enough to replace them.

The old model is sometimes on discount now. If you don't care about weight, that's one way to choose too.

Why brushed-lining waterproof pants are warm

How warm clothing is comes down to how much still air it holds around your body. A brushed lining traps air between the fibers and builds a layer between your leg and the fabric.

Thin rain pants tend to cling with cold fabric against your legs. With a brushed lining, what touches your skin is the brushed face, so the cold is harder to feel.

What does 30,000mm water resistance mean in real rain?

Water resistance is measured by standing a column of water on the fabric and seeing at what height in mm water seeps through (the JIS L 1092 method). 30,000mm works out to withstanding a 30m column of water.

With pants, your weight presses water into the fabric when you sit or kneel. That's where a water resistance higher than a jacket's helps. On days when I'd rest on wet rock or snow, this is the number I'd rely on.

Choosing between these and the thinner Typhon Stretch Pants

The Stretch Pants weigh 216g, 132g lighter than the Warm, and cost ¥6,600 less. Their breathability number is a high 50,000, so they suit summer rain better.

Who it suits

They fit best for people who walk low mountains from November to March, including on rainy or sleety days. The dimensions assume you layer them over your usual trekking pants, so you can use them without changing what's underneath. The waist cinches with hook-and-loop and the hem tightens with a drawcord, so they don't flap even over hiking boots.

Whether to wear them on snowy mountains depends on the mountain's conditions and the product's cautions. If it's only summer rain, the thinner Stretch Pants are another choice. For cold, dry days on a low mountain, the water-repellent Millet Semnoz Ripstop Pants are an option.

If you're looking for thin pants that stop wind and chill rather than rain, read the Flow Wrap Pants review too.
