When does the 2026 Baltoro 65 come out? Price and weight

Samsonite Japan announced the release on April 20, 2026: a new spring/summer 2026 version. The 65L costs ¥57,200 (tax included), and size M weighs 2.278kg. It comes in S, M and L, in Shadow Pine Black, Crocodile Green and Stellar Blue.

The Baltoro is Gregory's long-running large pack for tent camping. This version reworks the parts that touch your back and shoulders, plus the suspension.

How I judged it

The first thing I looked at was the load limit. It carries up to 27kg at 65L, and the suspension was revised to stiffen the body. Next I divided weight by capacity: 35.0g per liter, lighter than the 50L Atmos. What gave me pause is the weight, over 2kg empty. I still recommend it, because on a tent-camping traverse bulked up with food and water, a strong frame is what makes the load easy on your back. Hiking in Japan and abroad, I've found that how a pack carries on a heavy day decides everything.

What's different from the previous Baltoro 65?

Five things changed. All of them are parts that wear on a long traverse, or parts that touch your skin.

• The back-panel mesh is a smoother material than on the previous model.
• The shoulder harness uses a soft mesh, so it chafes less even over a thin layer.
• The side pockets changed from mesh to nylon, so they tear less when you slide trekking poles in and out.
• The bottle holster is now a drawstring type, so smaller bottles fit too.
• The suspension was revised to stiffen the body, and the load limit is now up to 27kg (Baltoro 65).

This is where I get excited. Four of the five are about skin and tears. The last one is about the frame. When a pack flexes under a heavy load, the weight stays on your shoulders. Together with the free-float hip belt that pivots with your body, I read this as a rework to keep the load on your hips.

Baltoro 65 vs. Atmos AG 50 and Saas-Fee

15L bigger than the Atmos AG 50, and lighter per liter

The Atmos AG 50 is known for its 3D back-panel mesh that lets air flow across your back. The Baltoro 65 is 318g heavier but holds 15L more (2,278 − 1,960). Price per liter is ¥880 for the Baltoro and ¥1,078 for the Atmos.

If you choose by weight, the Saas-Fee NX 50+

Weight per liter is the same 35.0g, and it's ¥17,600 cheaper. If you can pack light for tent camping, this one is enough. If you often carry heavy loads, I'd pick the Baltoro, with its clear load limit.

Who is the Baltoro 65 for? Choosing between the 75 and the women's model

• Tent-camping traverses where food and water make the load heavy.
• You want to pull gear out from the middle of the pack through the front U-zip.
• You want to clip things like a bear spray holster on the outside of the pack.

Things to watch

The other is size: even at 65L, weight and dimensions differ across S, M and L. The M is 67×38×29cm and the L is 70.8×38×30cm.
